Welcome
to the Protective Services Employees Coalition (PSEC)
home on the information super hi-way!
You
will find that this site has been significantly improved and now includes
information on our history, our national affiliates and the officers and
stewards that serve our membership. If you are a member of PSEC you will
find many useful items here including downloadable forms for the Training
Committee as well as enrollment in the PSEC PAC
The
PSEC represents approximately 950 plus state employees in Connecticut who
stand ready to protect your sons and daughters at Connecticut's Colleges
and Universities, stand ready to protect our environment, the motoring and
flying public as well as those citizens under the care of many social
service agencies.
We are unique in that our coalition includes both firefighters IAFF
Local S-15 and
law enforcement IUPA
Local 74 personnel. In fact, our members represent in excess of
50 job titles in state service spread over at least 13 state agencies.
With
such a diverse membership, PSEC is truly representative of the State of
Connecticut as a whole.
Our members hail from virtually every community, racial, ethnic,
and religious group in Connecticut.
Politically, we are Republicans, Democrats and Independents; we are
liberals, moderates and conservatives.
In a nutshell, We Are Connecticut!
We are a labor
organization affiliated with the International Union of Police
Associations and the International Association of Fire Fighters. We
represent police officers and fire fighters who are State of Connecticut
employees and work at various state facilities.
At state
universities and colleges, our police officers and fire fighters are on
the job 24 hours a day to protect your children while they are away at
college.
At state
airports, including Bradley International and Groton New London, our
police officers and airport crash rescue fire fighters are working 24
hours a day to make sure your vacation, or business travel, ends as safe
as it began.
On our state
highways, motor vehicle inspectors are working to help make your travel
throughout the state safe. They are responsible for testing everyone from
the pleasure car driver to the driver of every tractor trailer and school
bus. In addition, motor vehicle inspectors operate the commercial vehicle
safety unit conducting spot checks of commercial vehicles, and patrolling
state highways in search of commercial vehicles operating with unsafe
conditions. They are out there enforcing the motor vehicle code to help
keep our highways safe.
At state
hospitals, our police officers and fire fighters are there to make sure
you are protected whether you are a patient or a visitor to one of the
state hospitals. When you are a patient in the hospital, the last thing
you need to be worried about is your own personal safety.
In fact, if
you have ever been a customer at any restaurant, grocery store, liquor
store, bar, night club, or casino, your rights as a consumer have been
under the scrutiny of one of the liquor control agents who are responsible
for licensing and inspecting every liquor establishment in the state, and
for investigating complaints of alleged violations of the Liquor Control
Act.
If you have
ever been a guest to our state forests and parks, our conservation
officers, park managers, and park maintainers were there to assure you a
safe and pleasant vacation. Additionally, on Connecticut's rivers,
lakes, and in Long Island Sound, the DEP is out patrolling to protect you
from reckless boaters, and providing search and rescue efforts when
emergency strikes. Our conservation officers are also working
throughout the state to protect wildlife and enforce state fish and game
laws.
At many of
the state office buildings, our members include police officers and
buildings and grounds patrol officers working to make sure your visit to a
state building is a safe one whether you are a state employee or a member
of the public conducting business with a state agency.
Enforcement
officers at the Department of Revenue Services are busy investigating and
prosecuting tax fraud cases, and pursuing tax evaders that cheat the state
out of millions of tax dollars annually.
At the
Department of Social Services, our enforcement officers are responsible
for pursuing "dead beat dads." They have the
responsibility of criminally prosecuting parents who skip out on child
support orders.
Throughout
the state, our state animal control officers are charged with enforcing
the animal control laws, providing services to towns without their own
animal control officers, and assisting local animal control officers in
towns that do have their own.
Police
officers at the Department of Special Revenue are always on the job
investigating fraud in the state lottery games as well as the various
charitable games allowed in Connecticut. Our members are also responsible
for monitoring each drawing of the Connecticut State Lottery to assure
every lottery customer a fair drawing.
Our police
officers receive the same training and carry the same certification as
officers in any of the local police departments in the state. Most have
the same authority as officers of local departments, some even operate
with statewide arrest authority. In fact, there is a long tradition of our
members being assigned to statewide task forces such as the Statewide
Narcotics Task Force or the Statewide Auto Theft Task Force.
Our fire
fighters receive the same training and attend the same fire academy as do
members of many of the full-time municipal fire departments, and in fact,
due to their special assignments, such as Bradley Airport, many of our
fire fighters receive more specialized or intensive training than do
municipal fire fighters.
As you can
see, whatever you do, wherever you go in Connecticut, chances are you are
being protected by a member of Protective Services Employees Coalition.
Our members are there to serve you and your family 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. |
