In The Spotlight - Sgt. Donald Bridge, Jr.

Protective Services wishes to  recognize 17 year veteran, Sergeant Donald Bridge, Jr., of the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on his appointment as President of The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).

Sergeant Bridge began his career working for his family-owned service station as a truck driver, mechanic and safety manager. After some time, he decided to pursue a career in law enforcement and applied for a position with the DMV.

Sergeant Bridge began his time with the State as an inspector at the New London Branch Office and has worked his way up the ranks, currently holding the title of Sergeant in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Division. Because of his extensive background, the Department of Motor Vehicles asked Sergeant Bridge to represent his division for The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, an organization promoting national commercial vehicle safety and security.

More specific goals of the CVSA include improving roadside inspections, safety audit programs, ensuring that technology meets enforcement’s needs for focusing on high-risk vehicles and cargoes, as well as promoting the expansion of enforcement personnel in North America through developed training and certification initiatives. The CVSA desires to be the “go-to” organization for all commercial vehicle safety related issues.

Donald has been with the CVSA for over 14 years; his unending commitment to commercial vehicle safety has now taken him to the presidency of the CVSA. Sergeant Bridge recently wrote an article for the Guardian, a publication of the CVSA and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In it he spoke about the need to further the technological advancements and communications. “Again, communications is the key. There are many ways that CVSA stays in touch with our members: updating them on our regional efforts; getting the word out about potential regulatory changes; coordinating legislative activities; as well as promoting education and training”, said Bridge.

For more information about the Commercial Safety Alliance or Sergeant Bridge, please visit the CVSA’s website at www.cvsa.org. Protective Services wishes to congratulate Sergeant Donald Bridge on his newly elected position, as well  for the fine work he has done for the Department of Motor Vehicles.
